Press Release

Friday September 15, 2006

A river cruise with national celebs, new corporate sponsors, and a creative website are the latest announcements for “Sheriff’s Safety Town.”
Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator announced that Brookshire’s Grocery Company, The Times, and Kansas City Southern Railroad have signed on to sponsor displays in the miniature town where children will learn and practice safety skills. Brookshire’s will sponsor a replica of their grocery stores; The Times and the Gannett Foundation will build a newspaper building; and KCS will construct a railroad crossing with lights, a gate mechanism, and track panel where children can learn about railway safety.

Clear Channel Radio station K-945 is selling $50 tickets for two cruises on the Red River September 24 that will also benefit the safety project. MTV celebrity/singer Cheyenne Kimball and singer Josh Hoge will be the special guests on board. Space is limited on the cruise. More information can be found at any of the local Clear Channel radio websites.

Information about Sheriff’s Safety Town can be found on a new website designed by Creative State Design. The site is located at www.sheriffssafetytown.org. Included are current news announcements and information on events, details on how to be involved in the project, and testimonies about why a safety education center is needed in Caddo Parish.

Safety Town will be built on LA Hwy. 3132 and will operate year-round, teaching children the importance of safety. The small village built just for kids will feature child-size buildings, streets, working traffic lights, and electric cars that will help reinforce classroom lessons. Motor vehicle, pedestrian, bicycle, railroad, gun, fire, and electrical safety are the featured areas of study.
